How to Brew - AeroPress

Here's a step-by-step guide to brewing coffee using an AeroPress. This method is simple, versatile, and yields a clean, rich cup of coffee. We'll cover the **inverted method**, which gives you more control over brewing time.

What You'll Need

  • AeroPress coffee maker (chamber, plunger, filter cap, and filter)
  • Freshly ground coffee (medium-fine grind, similar to table salt)
  • Hot water (about 175°F–205°F or 80°C–96°C)
  • Scale (optional)
  • Timer
  • Stirrer or spoon
  • Mug

Instructions

  • Insert the plunger into the AeroPress chamber about 1 inch.
  • Place the AeroPress upside down (plunger at the bottom).
  • Pre-wet the paper filter in the filter cap with hot water to remove any papery taste.
  • Weigh **15–18 grams** of coffee (or 1 AeroPress scoop).
  • Add the ground coffee to the chamber.
  • Start your timer and pour about **50 grams of hot water** over the coffee to saturate it.
  • Stir gently to ensure all grounds are wet. Let it sit for **30 seconds**.
  • Slowly pour hot water into the chamber until you reach the **top line** or about 200 grams.
  • Stir the mixture gently to ensure even extraction.
  • Place the wet filter cap on the AeroPress and screw it on securely.
  • Carefully flip the AeroPress onto your mug.
  • Press down gently and steadily, stopping when you hear a hissing sound (about 20–30 seconds).
  • Remove the AeroPress and unscrew the filter cap.
  • Push the plunger to eject the coffee grounds and filter for easy cleanup.
  • Enjoy your fresh cup of coffee as is, or dilute it with hot water if you prefer an Americano-style brew.
  • Experiment with grind size, water temperature, and coffee-to-water ratio to find your ideal brew.
  • Rinse all AeroPress parts after each use to maintain freshness.
